Another Year Older

Well, today is my birthday.  The last year has been a whirlwind.  We’ve had big changes…a new home, a new member of the family and some new challenges in our marriage.

There were times when I thought I wasn’t going to make it through.  Times when the kids were crying and I cried louder.  Times when the kids were throwing tantrums and I wanted to run away.  Times when I wondered if my marriage could survive.  Times when I didn’t even know who I was other than a mother.

The highs of this year were incredible too and for the same reasons as the lows…two growing daughters, a strengthening marriage, a new home to make our own.  Figuring out how to not get so lost in motherhood that I don’t lose myself.

I am thankful for the lows in my life!  The challenges enable me to appreciate the good times even more.

I am going to make some new birthday resolutions this year.

  • Plan ahead, but LIVE IN THE MOMENT.  I will never have these precious times with my daughters again.
  • Show more gratitude.  I am so thankful for all my blessings and instead of telling that to others, I just think it to myself.
  • Play with the kids more.  I do play with the kids, but there are so many times I tell them “maybe later” because I’m busy cleaning, cooking, doing laundry, etc.  My whole purpose of staying home is spending time with them.  I don’t want to miss out on those opportunities to make memories.  I honestly don’t remember my mom playing with us when we were kids because she was always too busy.  (Sorry if you stumble across this mom, just keeping it real)
  • Make more time for family and friends.
  • Take better care of myself.

I also wanted to say Happy Birthday to my twin, L.  (I’m on the left in the second picture) It’s always weird when we don’t get to spend our birthday together.  I’m thinking of you, sis, and all the good times we’ve had together!

I’m a pretty lucky lady. Cheers to another year.
