Choices
Life is all about choices.
And sometimes there are too many choices-like why are there 52 kinds of toothpaste and 38 kinds of deodorant to choose from? (If you know the answer to this please enlighten me!)
I think one of the most important choices you make each day is your attitude.
I am generally an upbeat, glass-half-full kind of girl. But sometimes during the meltdowns of a toddler it’s hard to choose a happy attitude.
My soon to be three year old daughter has been trying my patience lately. She has perfected the whine and fake cry. Throw in a very curious 14 month old, a long winter and a broken dishwasher and you have the makings of a bad mood. And once that bad mood starts, it is hard to break its momentum. (Did I mention that the dishwasher is brand new?)
I am fortunate enough to stay at home with my kids and I wouldn’t change it for the world! But on some bad days I have to take things moment by moment.
When I feel myself quickly slipping into anger I try to remember what kind of example I want to be to my children. I try to follow my own rules…
-
talk nicely
-
don’t shout
-
say please and thank-you
-
take a deep breath if you feel frustrated
-
ask for help if you need it
It’s amazing how positively my children respond to me if I practice what I preach.
I have to wake up each day and CHOOSE my attitude.Yeah, I’m not perfect. I don’t always make the right choices. But as a mother, I will always keep trying.
